In 1900, W.E.B. Du Bois unveiled a striking series of hand-drawn charts and infographics at the Paris World Fair, capturing the African American experience for a global audience. This counted cross stitch design by Shaded Stitchery is an interpretation of that historic work, honoring both Du Bois's artistry and the vital data he preserved.
The design is available as a printed hardcopy pattern. If you want to get up and stitching quickly, save yourself the time of collecting all the supplies and purchase one of our bundle options which include the pattern along with fabric, thread, and needles.

The model for this design was stitched with overdyed thread and linen. Our bundles substitute DMC thread and standard Aida and linen. If you purchase a bundle, note that the finished piece will not have the same degree of color variegation as the model.
Full disclosure, I am not a stitching kind of person, but one of the co-editors of the book W. E. B. Du Bois's Data Portraits: Visualizing Black America. This is incredible! Thank you for bringing this history to life in such a beautiful way. I doubt Dr. Du Bois would have believed in 1900 that these portraits would still be a part of any conversation in the 2000s! Cheers!
This pattern is wonderful, and the added bonus of the history was just fascinating. This extra knowledge makes stitching it all the more intriguing!!!! Wonderful composition and a fabulous design!!!!!
